Frequently Asked Questions

Can I claim private health rebates for my sessions?

Yes, we can process your private health rebate at the time of each session. Most major health funds participate in the Hicaps option, allowing us to claim your rebate through our terminal during your consultation, leaving you to pay only the gap fee. For couple and family therapy sessions, we can divide the total fee into portions for each individual present.

Can I use a Medicare rebate with a GP Mental Health Plan?

Yes, if your GP determines that you are eligible for a Mental Health Care Plan, they will provide you with a referral to a psychologist at Hawksburn Therapy Centre. GPs often email us the plan directly, which we add to your e-file along with the doctor’s referral details and provider number. We track your session usage and liaise with your doctor when appropriate.

Currently, Medicare offers rebates for up to 10 sessions per calendar year with a Mental Health Care Plan. We process the Medicare rebate for you at the end of your session after payment is made. Rebates are deposited into your nominated bank account, and we send you a Medicare Statement of Benefit for tracking purposes.

How long are therapy sessions?

Our sessions are typically 1 hour in duration. Couple and family therapy sessions are usually 1.5 hours.

We require 72 hours' notice for cancellations to allow us to offer your appointment to other clients. You will receive appointment confirmations by text and reminders via email and text. Missed appointments or late cancellations may incur a full fee unless in emergency situations, which are at the therapist’s discretion.

Is my privacy and confidentiality protected?

Yes, we provide a confidential space for all clients and comply with mandatory requirements that may limit confidentiality in specific situations. Our confidentiality and privacy statement is included with the consent forms you will receive electronically before your first appointment.

How soon can I schedule an appointment?

We aim to see you as soon as possible once you contact us. Waiting times can vary, but we strive to book appointments within two to three weeks. For urgent cases, we place you on a waiting list and notify you if an earlier slot becomes available. We also prioritise continuity by offering follow-up appointments with the same therapist whenever possible.

Where is your clinic located?

We are located in the Hawksburn Village shopping precinct, in a quiet arcade which is entered next to the Hawksburn post office. Clients value this discreet location. There is ample 2-hour parking in the Council Car Park behind the supermarket and surrounding streets. Please note the clearway zone outside our building from 4:30 pm. We send detailed instructions on how to find us when your first appointment is booked.
